CIL has inked a memorandum of understanding with IIT Hyderabad to establish a Centre of Clean Coal Energy and Net Zero (CLEANZ) aimed at developing clean coal technologies. CIL will provide a grant of ₹98 Crore over five years to support this initiative, which is expected to become financially self-sustainable thereafter. This collaboration aligns with India’s Net Zero commitments and aims to enhance research capabilities within the coal sector, focusing on low-grade coal and rejected coal. The CLEANZ initiative will cover areas such as carbon capture, coal gasification, and energy efficiency. Additionally, it includes training for CIL officials on technology adoption and skill enhancement.
