Zydus Lifesciences has launched ANVIMO (Letermovir), a significant advancement in preventing Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in hematopoietic stem cell and kidney transplant patients. Available in 240 mg and 480 mg dosages, ANVIMO addresses the severe complications associated with CMV, which can lead to graft failure and prolonged hospital stays. Unlike traditional treatments like ganciclovir, which have notable side effects, Letermovir offers a safer alternative, enhancing transplant outcomes.
The financial burden of post-transplant care in India often hampers patient access to necessary treatments. Previously, the innovator Letermovir cost over ₹5 lakh per month, but ANVIMO has reduced this price by 91%, making it significantly more affordable for patients. Dr. Sharvil Patel, MD of Zydus Lifesciences, emphasized the importance of this launch in improving the accessibility and quality of care for transplant patients, thereby enhancing their survival rates and overall quality of life. This strategic move could strengthen Zydus's market position and drive growth in the lifesciences sector.
