IEX reported a monthly electricity traded volume of 9,622 MU in February 2025, reflecting a 9% year-on-year increase. The Green Market showed remarkable growth, with an 85% rise year-on-year, achieving a trading volume of 552 MU. Notably, 16.37 lakh Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) were traded, marking a substantial 167% increase compared to the previous year. Though demand surged, with peak power reaching 238 GW in early February, the average market price in the Day Ahead Market fell to ₹4.38/unit, a decrease of 11% year-on-year, benefitting Discoms and industrial consumers by providing competitive pricing.
The Day Ahead Market recorded a volume of 5,369 MU, up 14% from February 2024, while the Real-Time Electricity Market saw a 23% increase to 2,887 MU. Despite a shift in the Day Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market trading down to 814 MU, the overall outlook remains positive, driven by a growing demand for energy and increasing participation in renewable sectors.
