24-02-2025 | 10:03 pm

Tata Steel has reported consolidated total operating income of ₹222,917 crore, a notable decline from ₹243,352 crore in the previous fiscal year, signifying a year-over-year revenue drop of approximately 8.2%. This decline may be attributed to softened demand in key markets and fluctuating steel prices.

In terms of profitability, the company posted a net loss of ₹4,909 crore compared to a profit of ₹8,075 crore in FY23, reflecting significant challenges including operational cost escalations and reduced revenue from international operations. The resulting Earnings Per Share (EPS) decreased accordingly, indicating tighter profit margins and potential pressures on shareholder returns.

Operational costs have increased significantly, reflecting higher expenses related to energy, raw materials, and logistics. The EBITDA for the period fell to ₹22,305 crore, down from ₹32,300 crore, highlighting a decline of approximately 30.5%. This reflects the company’s struggle with cost management amidst changing market dynamics.

However, Tata Steel maintains a strong balance sheet with total debt at ₹81,573 crore as compared to ₹78,017 crore in FY23, and a tangible net worth of ₹73,757 crore. The current ratio stands at 0.79, which suggests a need for improved liquidity management as the company navigates a challenging market environment.

Looking forward, Tata Steel's focus will likely remain on stabilizing operations, enhancing cost efficiency, and exploring growth opportunities, particularly in the Indian market. The company has ambitious plans for domestic capacity expansions, which could provide a buffer against international volatility.

Investor insight suggests a cautious "hold" position, considering the current financial performance amid market uncertainties. Future revenue growth and operational improvements will be critical in validating long-term investment potential.
