Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) has laid the foundation for India’s first Polylactic Acid (PLA) biopolymer manufacturing plant in Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, with a capex of Rs. 2,850 Crore. This facility will utilize cutting-edge technology and is strategically located next to BCML's existing sugar factory to maximize operational efficiency. It boasts an annual production capacity of 80,000 tonnes and is set to produce 100% compostable PLA, providing a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics. The project is projected to create 225 direct jobs in manufacturing and R&D, along with over 2,000 indirect jobs, supporting local economic growth. Notably, the plant will operate entirely on renewable energy, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional plastic production.
