Equillium Inc. and Biocon Limited have reported promising results from a Phase 2 study of itolizumab, aimed at treating moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC). After 12 weeks of treatment, itolizumab achieved a clinical remission rate of 23.3%, outperforming adalimumab (20%) and placebo (10%). The study, which included 90 biologic-naïve patients, confirmed a comparable endoscopic remission rate of 16.7% for itolizumab and adalimumab, while itolizumab also demonstrated a notable clinical response rate of 63.3%. Overall, the drug was well tolerated without any significant safety concerns. These findings reinforce the potential of itolizumab as a viable treatment option in a challenging therapeutic landscape.
