Birla Corporation Limited reported a year-on-year sales growth of 7% in cement volumes for the December quarter, achieving consolidated EBITDA of Rs 263 crore, a sequential increase of 36%. The improvement was primarily driven by the Chanderia unit, which saw heightened demand and prices in northern India. Despite facing competitive pressures, the company maintained its premium positioning in central India.

The Mukutban plant, recognized as one of the most efficient cement facilities, contributed to this robust performance with nearly 20% volume growth. Overall, capacity utilization reached 92%. However, the average realization per ton decreased by 9.5% to Rs 4,781 due to price pressures in regional markets.

Cost management initiatives, including reduced variable costs and optimized fuel usage, resulted in power and fuel costs declining by 7.4%. Yet, the EBITDA per ton fell 37% year-on-year to Rs 569. The company remains optimistic about future growth, supported by rising rural demand and expected price stability, despite challenges in its jute division, which reported a cash loss of Rs 4.60 crore due to lower government orders.
