Wockhardt Limited — Updates, 31-01-2025: Press Release
Wockhardt's flagship discovery product, Zaynich® (Zidebactam/Cefepime, WCK 5222), has completed a pivotal Phase III study demonstrating a clinical cure rate of 96.8% for complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI). This result surpassed meropenem's efficacy of 68.4%, marking Zaynich® as one of the most effective FDA-approved novel antibiotics in over a decade. The Phase III study, which enrolled 530 patients across multiple countries, also set the stage for Wockhardt to apply for regulatory approval in the US and Europe.
With rising antibiotic resistance, Zaynich® targets a wide range of infections caused by multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant pathogens, addressing an urgent market need where over 8 million cUTI cases are reported annually in the US and EU. The drug has garnered attention for compassionate use, with requests from several countries even before formal approval. This positive outcome could significantly boost Wockhardt's position in the global pharmaceutical market, highlighting its commitment to combating antibiotic resistance.
