The Board of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has approved the acquisition of the palm undertaking from Vishwatej Oil Industries Private Limited. This move is part of HUL's Palm localisation strategy aimed at enhancing supply chain resilience for palm derivatives, which are crucial for manufacturing various Personal Care, Beauty, and Home Care products currently imported from Indonesia and Malaysia.

The initiative includes establishing sapling nurseries, fresh fruit bunch collection centers, and a modern palm oil mill in Telangana. Additionally, HUL plans to implement a comprehensive farmer outreach program to provide technical assistance and promote sustainable farming practices. CEO Rohit Jawa emphasized that this acquisition supports HUL's commitment to contribute to the National Mission of increasing domestic oilseed production and reducing import dependence.
