Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) continues to demonstrate robust growth in its electricity trading operations. In December 2024, IEX recorded an all-time high monthly traded volume of 11,132 MU, reflecting a 29% year-on-year increase. The Green Market performed exceptionally well, achieving a remarkable 236% growth YoY. In the first nine months of FY25, IEX's electricity traded volume reached 88,981 MU, up 19% compared to the same period last year, while Q3 FY25 saw 30,464 MU, a 16% increase YoY. The trading of renewable energy certificates (RECs) also surged, with 16.62 lakh RECs traded in December, resulting in a 58% YoY growth.
Pricing dynamics showed the average Day Ahead Market price at Rs 3.89/unit, a 14% decrease YoY, benefiting consumers as they sought more cost-effective power alternatives.
