Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has placed India's largest order for eight 70-tonne bollard pull tugs with Cochin Shipyard, valued at ₹450 Crore. This initiative aligns with the government's Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, boosting local manufacturing and enhancing self-reliance in the maritime sector. The tugs are expected to be delivered between December 2026 and May 2028, significantly improving vessel operation efficiency and safety in Indian ports.
This order will increase APSEZ's fleet to 152 tugs, contributing to the company's strategy of enhancing maritime infrastructure. The collaboration also reflects confidence in local manufacturing capabilities, ensuring operations meet international safety standards. Previously, APSEZ contracted two ASD tugs from Cochin Shipyard, both delivered ahead of schedule, with three additional units currently under construction. This order highlights the growing significance of the maritime industry in India's economic development.
