Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) has commenced production for the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) as part of a contract with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) for a total of 14 FPVs, valued at ₹1,070.47 crore. Each of these vessels will feature advanced waterjet propulsion, designed for speeds exceeding 33 knots, and will play a crucial role in patrolling coastal waters, supporting various missions including search and rescue.

Additionally, the plate cutting ceremony for the second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) was held, following the first ship's ceremony in May 2024. This project encompasses six NGOPVs valued at ₹1,614.89 crore, with each vessel equipped to achieve speeds over 23 knots. Their primary roles will involve coastal and offshore patrolling, fisheries protection, and maritime security.

The first FPV is expected to be delivered by March 2026, while deliveries for the NGOPVs are scheduled for mid-2027, presenting a positive outlook for MDL's operational growth and strategic capabilities in maritime defense.
