Reliance NU Suntech, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, has received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a significant project involving 930 MW of solar energy alongside a 465 MW/1860 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This marks India’s largest solar and battery storage initiative, positioning Reliance at the forefront of renewable energy advancements in the region.
The project is set to utilize the largest deployment of grid storage batteries in Asia, ensuring a reliable supply of peak power for four hours daily, which is expected to alleviate issues faced by DISCOMs under high power demand conditions. Reliance NU Suntech emerged victorious in a competitive tender process, securing the biggest share of the allocation amid intense competition for 2,000 MW of solar power projects connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). This venture highlights the shift towards cost-effective renewable energy solutions in India, with a 25-year power purchase agreement in place between SECI and Reliance NU Suntech for the procurement and distribution of solar power to various DISCOMs. Positive outlook for Reliance Power as it leverages this strategic win to enhance its market position in the renewable sector.
