PNB has announced a board meeting to discuss the financial results for the quarter and half-year. The bank reported a consolidated total income of ₹52,777 crore for FY2024, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 10.9%. Key drivers of this growth included an increase in retail deposits, which saw an 11.3% rise to ₹14.58 lakh crore as of September 30, 2024, alongside improved asset quality indicators.

The net profit after tax for FY2024 stood at ₹8,245 crore, significantly up from ₹2,507 crore in FY2023, resulting in an Earnings Per Share (EPS) of ₹9.13. This profitability was supported by declining credit costs and a reduction in gross NPAs to 5.73% from 8.73% the previous year, further illustrating enhanced risk management efforts.

Operational costs increased moderately, driven primarily by wage revisions, leading to an operating profit margin of about 1.61% of average total assets (ATA) in FY2024. However, this is still competitive against public sector bank averages.

The balance sheet remains stable, with a capital adequacy ratio of 15.97% as of FY2024, and a strong liquidity coverage ratio of 129%. Cash flow metrics indicate a manageable debt level in relation to total assets.

Given these developments, PNB is positioned positively moving forward, with expectations for continued profitability and sufficient capital reserves to support growth. Market sentiment remains cautiously optimistic, and it could be a potential 'buy' opportunity for investors looking at strong fundamentals coupled with strategic government backing.
