Torrent Pharmaceuticals has entered into an agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim to acquire three anti-diabetes brands: Cospiaq (empagliflozin), Cospiaq Met (empagliflozin + metformin), and Xilingio (empagliflozin + linagliptin). The acquisition aims to strengthen Torrent’s diabetes care portfolio and enhance its position in the Oral Anti-Diabetic market, a segment expected to grow significantly. The global market for SGLT-2 inhibitors, including empagliflozin, is valued at approximately INR 3,235 Crores, with a robust growth rate of 25% CAGR. With India projected to have around 125 million diabetes patients by 2045, Torrent's expanded portfolio positions it strategically for future growth. This acquisition follows a successful co-marketing agreement that began in 2022, and the deal is expected to be finalized by March 2025.
