Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has awarded a significant contract to Hitachi Energy India Limited and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the design and execution of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) link. This ±800 kV, 6,000 MW bi-pole and bi-directional HVDC link will transmit renewable energy from Khavda in Gujarat to Nagpur, a distance of over 1,200 kilometers. The project is part of India’s Phase-V (8 GW) renewable energy initiative and aims to enhance the country’s transmission infrastructure, facilitating a shift towards cleaner energy sources.

The project will utilize advanced HVDC technology to support the integration of renewable energy into the grid. With a commitment to local production, Hitachi Energy aims to leverage its newly inaugurated factory in Chennai to meet both domestic and global demands for clean energy solutions. This initiative underscores a positive outlook for Hitachi Energy as it aligns with India's net-zero goals, bolstering its position in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Investors should monitor this development as it highlights potential growth in renewable energy sectors and infrastructure advancements.
