Reliance has completed a significant transaction to form a joint venture with Disney, involving key equity changes in various entities. Reliance, through its subsidiary RISE Worldwide Limited, sold its 65% stake in Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) to Viacom18 for Rs. 94.54 crore, with control remaining within Reliance. Concurrently, Reliance acquired a 63.16% stake in Star Television Productions Limited (STPL) from Disney for Rs. 211.59 crore, making STPL a subsidiary. STPL licenses the "STAR" and "HOTSTAR" trademarks, with a merger plan into Star India Private Limited (SIPL) already underway.
In a strategic move, Reliance has also purchased Paramount Global’s 13.01% stake in Viacom18 for Rs. 4,286 crore, increasing its total holding in Viacom18 to 70.49%. Furthermore, Reliance invested Rs. 11,500 crore in SIPL, receiving over 26 crore equity shares. This transaction enhances Reliance's influence in the entertainment sector and could lead to further growth opportunities, positioning the company strongly within the joint venture's operational framework.
