Tata Chemicals Limited — Important, 12-11-2024: Updates
Tata Chemicals Europe Limited (TCEL), a subsidiary of Tata Chemicals, has approved a capital investment of £60 million (~Rs. 655 crore) to construct a new pharmaceutical-grade sodium bicarbonate plant in Northwich, UK. This facility is set to triple TCEL's production capacity for this specialised product, meeting the rising demand from pharmaceutical manufacturers. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with the first production slated for 2027.
In conjunction with this investment, TCEL plans to cease operations at its underperforming Lostock plant by the end of January 2025, a decision driven by the need to restructure its UK operations. Last year, the Lostock facility generated approximately ₹1,200 crore, contributing around 8% to the company's turnover, indicating a significant shift in operational focus. This strategic move presents a positive outlook for Tata Chemicals as it aligns with market demands and enhances production capabilities.
