Kanpur Plastipack LimitedUpdates, 19-03-2025: Press Release

Shares of sugar companies surged by up to 20% on the BSE amid expectations of a significant decline in sugar production across key states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Current estimates from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories indicate that India's sugar production could drop to 25.9 million tonnes this season, down from 31.9 million tonnes the previous year. This contrasts with earlier estimates from the Indian Sugar Mills Association, which forecasted 27.2 million tonnes.

In response to rising fixed costs and declining production, sugar mills have raised prices, resulting in a 7-9% increase in sugar prices in key states from January to March. Analysts expect profitability in the sugar milling sector to remain strong despite challenges in the ethanol market. Overall, the sugar industry's outlook remains positive, supported by increasing ethanol blending policies that may boost demand further. Investors should monitor these developments closely as they may significantly impact sugar company performance moving forward.
