28-03-2025 · 04:19 pm

Fitch Ratings has affirmed State Bank of India’s (SBI) Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at ‘BBB-’ with a stable outlook. The Viability Rating (VR) remains at ‘bb’ and the Government Support Rating (GSR) is affirmed at ‘bbb-’. The stable outlook reflects a consistent financial performance despite the challenges posed by the economic environment.

The affirmation of the rating is attributed to SBI's robust financial standing, characterized by satisfactory asset quality, resilient capital ratios, and strong funding and liquidity profiles. The bank has maintained steady revenue generation capabilities, underpinned by a diversified loan portfolio and effective cost management practices. However, ongoing pressures from the operating environment may pose risks to profitability and asset quality in the near term.

SBI’s ability to navigate these challenges effectively will be crucial for its credit ratings. A stable rating implies that the bank is likely to enjoy reduced borrowing costs, thus providing it with strategic flexibility for future growth initiatives. Investor sentiment is expected to remain positive, bolstered by the stability of the rating and the proactive measures undertaken by the bank to bolster its financial position.
