Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited — Updates, 31-03-2025: Press Release
Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd., a subsidiary of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, has expanded its collaboration with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to accelerate the development of a self-amplifying mRNA (saRNA) vaccine against the Nipah virus. This partnership secures funding of up to USD 13.38 million. Gennova will also collaborate with the Houston Methodist Research Institute to leverage AI technology for optimizing vaccine targets. The preclinical and phase 1 tests will take place in India, where Nipah outbreaks have a 75% fatality rate.
This initiative is significant given the absence of existing vaccines or therapeutics for Nipah, and CEPI's overarching goal of advancing vaccine candidates for high-risk pathogens. With expertise in mRNA technology, Gennova aims to set a new standard for rapid vaccine development and equitable access, particularly for at-risk populations. This strategic move signals a positive outlook for Gennova's position in the biopharmaceutical sector, enhancing its capacity to address emerging infectious diseases.
