A 15-year-old US patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia has successfully been treated for a severe, drug-resistant infection using Zaynich™ (Zidebactam/Cefepime, WCK 5222) under compassionate use at St. Jude's Hospital. The patient, who faced a critical situation after failing to respond to nine different antibiotics, was treated with Zaynich™ for 41 days, leading to the resolution of the infection and stabilization of their clinical condition. This case marks the third successful use of Zaynich™ in the US, highlighting its potential in combating drug-resistant infections, with a total of 51 patients treated successfully under compassionate use.

Zaynich™, a proprietary antibiotic developed by Wockhardt, is designed to target multi-drug resistant Gram-negative infections and has recently completed a global Phase III study, supporting its upcoming marketing authorization worldwide. The company has a strong drug discovery portfolio aimed at addressing the challenge of multi-drug resistant infections, with six products at various stages of clinical development, all receiving Qualified Infectious Disease Product designation by the US FDA. Positive implications for Wockhardt’s position in the pharmaceutical market are evident, with ongoing efforts to combat superbugs contributing to long-term growth potential.
