Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. has commenced operations at the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka. This fully automated terminal, developed under a public-private partnership, is set to significantly boost the capacity of Colombo Port, enhancing cargo handling and reducing congestion. With an investment of approximately USD 800 million, CWIT features a quay length of 1,400 meters and a depth of 20 meters, enabling it to handle around 3.2 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) annually.

Operation of CWIT is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute positively to Sri Lanka's GDP. Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, emphasized the terminal's role in enhancing trade in the Indian Ocean and strengthening India-Sri Lanka ties. This project highlights Adani Group's capacity to execute large-scale infrastructure projects efficiently, signifying a strategic development in the region's maritime logistics. The market outlook appears promising with potential economic benefits for both nations.
