Bank of India — Important, 09-04-2025: Updates
The Central Government, after consulting relevant financial institutions, has mandated the amalgamation of several Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) across various states in India.
In Maharashtra, Maharashtra Gramin Bank and Vidharbha Konkan Gramin Bank will merge under the sponsorship of Bank of Maharashtra, effective May 1, 2025. The transferee bank will have an authorized capital of ₹2000 Crore, consisting of ₹845 Crore from the central government, ₹253 Crore from the state government, and ₹591 Crore from the sponsor bank.
In Uttar Pradesh, Baroda U.P. Bank, Aryavart Bank, and Prathama U.P. Gramin Bank will consolidate into Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, with the same capitalization structure.
For West Bengal, Bangiya Gramin Vikash Bank, Paschim Banga Gramin Bank, and Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank will form West Bengal Gramin Bank, also with a ₹2000 Crore capital structure.
These consolidations include the transfer of all assets, liabilities, rights, and obligations of the amalgamating banks to their respective successors. This strategy is viewed as essential for enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring better service delivery in the local regions served by these banks. Investors should monitor these developments closely as they could significantly reshape the rural banking landscape and influence the financial performance of the involved banks.
