GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited is divesting stakes in non-operating and stressed assets to reduce debt and strengthen its financial health. This decision follows a settlement with lenders of GMR Rajahmundry Energy Limited (GREL). The company, along with its subsidiaries GMR Energy Limited and GMR Generation Assets Limited, has entered a framework agreement with Synergy Investments Holding Limited for the sale of stakes in three entities: GMR Bajoli Holi Hydropower, GMR Vemagiri Power Generation, and GREL, for a total consolidated consideration of INR 653 crores.

The divestment aims to facilitate the proposed one-time settlement with GREL's lenders, enabling a de-leverage of approximately INR 4,400 crores and improved bottom-line performance for GMR. The transaction is anticipated to be concluded by September 30, 2025, subject to necessary approvals, thereby allowing GMR to focus on core growth areas while managing financial liabilities effectively. Investors should monitor this development closely, as it holds the potential to positively impact the company’s financial standing and operational strategy.
