Coal India Limited — Updates, 21-04-2025: Press Release
Coal India Limited (CIL) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to set up a coal-fired 2×800 MW Ultra Supercritical Power Plant in Jharkhand. This initiative marks an expansion of the existing Chandrapura Thermal Power Station. The total investment for this Brownfield project is estimated to be around ₹16,500 Crore, with a 50% equity sharing agreement between CIL and DVC. The power plants will source coal from nearby CIL subsidiaries, Bharat Coking Coal Limited and Central Coalfields Limited. This venture enhances CIL's diversification into thermal power generation and signals potential growth in revenue streams, while investors should watch closely for developments as the project progresses.
