Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) flagged off the first dispatch of Benzyl Chloride from its newly established Chlorotoluenes Plant in Dahej, which boasts an annual production capacity of 30,000 MT. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the utilization of chlorine, a co-product of caustic soda, by producing value-added products crucial for multiple industries, including perfumery and pharmaceuticals. The plant will manufacture 13,200 MTPA Benzyl Chloride, 9,600 MTPA Benzyl Alcohol, and 7,200 MTPA Benzaldehyde, with production of the latter two expected to commence in May.
When operating at full capacity, the project is anticipated to generate approximately ₹400 crore in annual revenue, including ₹130 crore from exports to Europe, the USA, and South Asia. The facility will also create between 150-200 direct jobs and an estimated 800-1000 indirect jobs, contributing significantly to local economic growth.
