Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and GPS Renewables Private Limited have signed a Joint Venture (JV) agreement to establish Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants throughout India. This initiative emphasizes BPCL's commitment to renewable energy and aligns with its Net Zero goals. The JV will focus on converting organic biomass waste into CBG, addressing key environmental issues such as agricultural residue management and greenhouse gas reduction while supporting rural development.

The joint venture plans to set up 8 to 10 plants in Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, areas with significant agri-biomass potential for CBG production. This project is expected to enhance energy security by decreasing reliance on imported fossil fuels and aligns with government initiatives promoting sustainable alternatives.
