Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has inaugurated a dedicated production line for Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains at its facility in Uttarpara, Kolkata, in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). This initiative follows a significant contract from Indian Railways to design and manufacture 80 sleeper train sets, valued at approximately 24,000 crore, which includes long-term maintenance over 35 years.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is touted as India’s first long-distance, semi high-speed train with indigenous design, focusing on passenger comfort and safety. Production has commenced, with prototypes expected to be ready next year. The Uttarpara facility, capable of producing both stainless steel and aluminum coaches, currently has an annual capacity of 300 coaches, which will be increased to 850 in response to rising demand.
