Hindalco Industries has successfully delivered 10,000 aluminium battery enclosures to Mahindra for their advanced e-SUVs, BE 6 and XEV 9e, from its new manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra. This facility marks Hindalco's significant entry into the electric vehicle (EV) component sector, demonstrating a capital investment of ₹500 crores and an initial production capacity of 80,000 enclosures per year, with plans to double that to 160,000.

The facility is noteworthy for its nearly all-women workforce, showcasing Hindalco’s commitment to inclusivity. The battery enclosures, which reduce weight by up to 40% compared to traditional steel designs, can enhance vehicle range by 8–10% and improve safety and thermal management. As India's EV market expands, Hindalco intends to leverage this capability across both domestic and global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), aligning with initiatives to bolster local manufacturing and reduce import dependence. The operation is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, reinforcing Hindalco's proactive approach to sustainable growth in the booming EV sector.
