Tata Steel UK has marked a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of its new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at Port Talbot. This state-of-the-art facility is part of a £1.25 billion transformation towards low CO2 steelmaking, with significant backing from the UK Government's £500 million investment. The EAF, set for commissioning by late 2027, is projected to cut Port Talbot's carbon emissions by approximately 90%, equivalent to 5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. This initiative underscores Tata Steel's commitment to sustainable steel production, securing 5,000 UK jobs and strengthening industrial resilience. The new EAF will produce 3 million tonnes of steel per year.
