PNB's total consolidated income surged 16% YoY to ₹37,998.84 crore in Q1FY26. Growth was primarily driven by interest income from advances and investments.

Net profit dropped to ₹1,832.22 crore, with EPS at ₹0.97. This significant decline is due to a one-time ₹3,324.24 crore charge from adopting a new lower tax regime. Adjusting for this, underlying profitability is much stronger.

Operational expenses rose 15.74% YoY. Despite the increase, cost growth was slightly lower than revenue growth, indicating stable efficiency trends.

Asset quality improved markedly: Gross NPAs reduced to 3.95% (from 4.98% YoY) and Net NPAs fell to 0.40% (from 0.60% YoY). Provisioning Coverage Ratio strengthened to 96.88%. Return on Assets improved to 0.97% (annualized).

Total deposits grew to ₹160,004.78 crore, while gross advances increased to ₹109,198.09 crore, signaling healthy business expansion and liquidity.

The bank's move to a lower tax regime resulted in a one-time profit impact this quarter. Continued focus on asset quality improvement and business growth appears to be key. Recent amalgamations of Regional Rural Banks indicate strategic restructuring.

Despite the headline profit dip due to a tax adjustment, PNB's core operational performance and asset quality show positive momentum, suggesting a stable outlook for retail investors.
