MTNL has announced it's unable to fund the upcoming interest payment for its 7.61% Bond Series VIIIB due to insufficient funds. Crucially, these bonds are sovereign-guaranteed by the Government of India. This arrangement means that even if MTNL cannot pay, the Government is obliged to make the payment to bondholders. Investors can rely on this government backing for the bond's servicing.
