Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has seen a significant shift in its ownership structure. The Government of India now holds ~49% equity, following the conversion of debt amounting to roughly Rs 16,130 Cr from deferred AGR and spectrum interest, plus another Rs 36,950 Cr from certain spectrum dues.
The company has aggressively raised capital, securing Rs 109,100 Cr in equity since its merger, with a substantial Rs 61,400 Cr infused in the current fiscal year (FY25). Its promoter groups, Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group, have contributed a significant portion, investing around Rs 27,000 Cr, which includes Rs 4,000 Cr in FY25. This shows strong backing from its parent companies, which combined hold approximately 26% of VIL. The Aditya Birla Group itself is a global conglomerate with a market cap exceeding $100 Bn.
Current shareholding breakdown: Government 49%, Vodafone Group 16.07%, Aditya Birla Group 9.50%, and Public shareholders 25.43%.
