A wake-up call that politicians will scroll past -

after their next ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A disturbing video from Ayodhya District Hospital

has once again shown the world the true face of

India’s “world-class healthcare system” - the one

reserved for the poor. The video, now viral, shows

a helpless patient tied hand and foot, struggling to

even reach the food kept right in front of him. The

patient wasn’t in a jail cell, but in an “unused” hospital

ward - a ward that was officially declared closed.

The hospital administration defended itself, calling

the patient “mentally unstable and an alcoholic

psycho.” In India, every failure of the system can be

neatly covered up by blaming the victim.

Darker side of India: Inhuman

treatment and living still persist

When the video embarrassed officials on social media, they suddenly “sprang into action” - the typical

Indian version of action that only starts after public outrage goes viral. The patient was hurriedly referred

to a medical college, but fate - or perhaps the cruel inefficiency of our system - had other plans. He

died on the way to Lucknow.

And just like that, one more poor life was lost - uncounted, unnamed, unimportant.

Humanity- That Bed Has Been Declared ‘Out of Order’ Too.

This heartbreaking scene isn’t a one-off case - it is a mirror to the rot in India’s healthcare machinery.

From Ayodhya to Patna, from Bhopal to Bhubaneshwar, government hospitals for the poor, look like

ghost houses where both infrastructure and compassion have died long ago.

Doctors are overworked, nurses underpaid, officials indifferent, and politicians too busy tweeting about

development to notice that people are dying in hospitals that look more like ruins than treatment centers.

This is the real India - not the one in glossy government ads showing “Ayushman Bharat” saving

lives, but the one where patients are tied like animals, because the system can’t be bothered to care.

As expected, once the video went viral, the administration suddenly remembered it had a conscience.

The patient was “immediately referred” to another hospital, but it was too late. Dr. Vinod Kumar Arya

from Darshan Nagar Medical College clarified that the patient wasn’t insane - he was diabetic and an

alcoholic, but not a danger to anyone.

His family confirmed the same. They were taking him to Lucknow after discharge, when he died on

the road - another faceless victim of India’s lethargic system.

So who takes responsibility now? The hospital? The state health department? The Chief Minister who

tweets condolences but cuts funds? Or the bureaucratic chain that thrives on files, not lives?

When Publicity Is Policy, and Corruption the Cure, the political response was as predictable as ever

- opposition parties posted angry tweets, ruling party spokespersons blamed “mismanagement,” and the

story will soon vanish from headlines until the next tragedy.

In a country where politicians live by publicity and corruption, the poor survive on luck and charity.

The system doesn’t serve people anymore - it serves itself.

India boasts of being the pharmacy of the world, but for its poor citizens, even a hospital bed and

humane care are luxuries. The official machinery’s lethargy, combined with decades of corruption and

photo-op governance, ensures that hospitals like Ayodhya’s continue to exist - as monuments of neglect.

Ayodhya may be called the “city of faith,” but this incident reminds us that faith alone can’t heal

a broken nation. Until India starts valuing the lives of its poorest citizens more than the next election

headline, hospitals will remain death houses, and “healthcare” will remain just another cruel joke.

Maybe Lord Ram didn’t return to Ayodhya after all - perhaps, He couldn’t bear to see what His

city has become.

Human beings in some parts of Chennai live like pigs

and stray dogs - enduring mosquito bites the size of bullets

and sleeping by canals that could out-stink a garbage dump.

Walk along the banks, and you will see what “development”

really smells like.

One wonders if our politicians ever take a stroll there (

Kailasapuram to Triplicane canal stretch)- or do they need

a drone to see what real life looks like? I’ve visited more

slums than most of them have election posters, and trust

me; the scene is equally tragic whether you go north or

south. The air is thick with filth, hopelessness, and political

indifference.

Human beings live like pigs & dogs,

but who cares

To be fair, the DMK has at least tried to care - a few corners cleaned here and there, some effort

made. But the task is Herculean. The opposition, however, seems to think shouting about corruption is

the same as serving the people. They’re too busy playing moral police while the poor drown in sewage

and sleep beside rats the size of kittens.

EPS, Annamalai - gentlemen, how about skipping your next road show and taking a real walk along

the Cooum? Better yet, try spending a single night in one of those canal-side huts. Feel the “joy” of

mosquito bites, open drains, and hunger. You want to prove you’re man of the people? Here is your

chance. No stage lights, no mikes - just the raw fragrance of neglect.

See how your “people” live - half-human, half-forgotten. We have been dreaming of turning Chennai

into Singapore for decades; meanwhile, the Cooum still qualifies as a biohazard, not a river.

For sixty years, this tragedy has been replaying like an old political speech - loud, repetitive, and utterly

useless. I once published a photo (The Mail) of the Luz over bridge canal side, calling it as the real face

of “Singara Chennai.” Well, it still sings - only now the chorus is of mosquitoes, misery, and neglect.

Here is a wild idea: instead of barking at each other across TV studios, why not promise to lift up

the 10% who live in the filthiest, most inhuman conditions imaginable? Maybe even give them clean

homes, sanitation, and dignity - you know, those minor things democracy was supposed to deliver.

A real politician knocks on the doors of the forgotten. The rest just wave from SUVs and call it

leadership.

So yes, Chennai can still become Singapore - just as soon as our leaders stop talking about it and

start walking along the canal.

And perhaps the DMK, which has at least taken a few small steps in this direction, should go further

- include a clear, firm commitment in its 2026 Manifesto to rehabilitate everyone living in the worst

conditions across Chennai and Tamil Nadu, provide proper accommodation, and finally clean the entire

stretch of the Cooum canals that have become a major threat to public health. The effort so far is too

meagre - but the promise, if made sincerely, could finally turn “Singara Chennai” from a tired slogan

into a living reality.
