Chennai:
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit,
directed by Girish A.D., known
for films such as Thanneer
Mathan Dinangal and Premalu,
is a lively family entertainer that
blends humour, youthful romance
and the everyday complexities of
relation-ships.
Produced by Bhavana Studios,
the film is backed by Dileesh
Pothan, Fahadh Faasil and Syam
Pushkaran. Girish A.D. and Kiran
Jose have written the screenplay,
while Vishnu Vijay has composed
the music and Joshi Mathew has
handled the cinematography. Nivin
Pauly and Mamitha Baiju play the
lead roles.
Story and Writing
Set against the backdrop of a
parish community, the film revolves
around a family whose ordinary
relationships gradual-ly lead to
misunderstandings, conflicts,
romance and comic situations.
The screenplay does not rely
on a conventional villain or
a large-scale conflict. Instead,
much of the drama emerges
from the characters' insecurities,
expectations, jealousy, immaturity
and emotional vulnerabilities. This
gives the narrative a grounded
quality, with several situations
drawing humour from familiar
family and social experiences.
The film also works as a
subtle social satire, exploring the
differences between traditional
family values and the perspec-
tives of the younger
generation. Rather than
becoming preachy, the
generational divide
is presented through
everyday conversations
and misunderstandings.
Performances
Nivin Pauly delivers
a natural performance,
combining his comic
timing with an effortless
screen presence.
His expres-sions,
body language and
understated reactions
add to the film's
humour, while he also
handles the emotional
portions with ease.
Mamitha Baiju brings
youthful energy to her
role as a confident and
contemporary young
woman. Her dialogue delivery and
natural mannerisms complement
the character's independent
outlook and add freshness to the
proceedings.
The chemistry between Nivin
Pauly and Mamitha Baiju is one
of the film's highlights. Their
playful interactions, disa-greements
and conversations create several
engaging moments without making
their relationship feel overly
staged.
The supporting cast also
contributes to the film's realistic
atmosphere. Their restrained
performances help make the fami-
ly and parish-community setting
feel lived-in and believable.
Technical Aspects
Vishnu Vijay's music
complements the narrative without
overpowering its grounded tone.
The background score supports
both the emotional and comic
moments effectively.
Joshi Mathew's cinematography
suits the intimate nature of the
story, capturing the family and
community environments with a
natural visual language.
